A new project and a new job

It’s been a while since our last blog post, but that doesn’t mean we’ve been sat around doing nothing. Thanks to support from Active Calderdale, we’ve been trying some new things at our hub in Todmorden Market, and talking to a bunch of other local folk doing good stuff. And now we can announce our next big move: we’ve been awarded funding to become a Community Active Travel Hub!

What does that mean? We’ll still be doing deliveries, but we will soon be able to offer a lot more as well. If you need a bike service but can’t afford a big repair bill, or want help to get back into cycling as an adult, we’ll be able to help. We’re going to build up a small bike and kit library, so you can try out an e-bike or a child seat and see how you get on with them before taking the plunge and buying one of your own. And we’ll be working with fantastic volunteers at a nearby social enterprise, to help them fix even more bikes and teach more people to look after theirs.

It’s not just bikes: we’ve recently started the Market Meader, a weekly walk from the Market that’s friendly, sociable and open to all. Think gentle stroll through town rather than a vigorous yomp through the hills. We’d love to explore more ways to help people get outdoors and add a bit of gentle exercise to their lives.

To make all this happen, we’re looking to employ a project coordinator. This role involves organizing, promoting, and leading a variety of community-focused activities centered around walking, cycling, and wheeling. If you love the outdoors and are committed to fostering a healthier, more active community, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

To apply, please read the attached job description then send a CV and cover letter to cargodalehebden@gmail.com. The deadline for applications is midnight on 31 October 2024, with interviews taking place week commencing 11 November.
